Lake Rhona

Sunny Prospects

Driving

  • Gordon River Road, to the Florentine Road junction, about 2 km west of Maydena;
  • Head north on the Florentine Road for 27 km to where it swings to the east and the Tiger Road continues straight ahead;
  • Travel north on the Tiger Road for 3.5 km to its junction with Range Road;
  • Turn left into Range Road and follow it for 3.5 km to its junction with Terry Walch Road; and
  • Turn left into Terry Walch Road and follow it for 3 km before taking the 'GO3' spur to the right. Continue a further 0.5 km to the car park area at the end of the road.

Walking

  • The track heads down to the Gordon River which has to be waded - the water level and strength of current increases quickly after rain;
  • Follow the Rasselas Track north, through the abandoned Gordonvale farmstead and along the plains;
  • Ultimately the track wheels left up some ridgelines to Lake Rhona which nestles in the amphitheatre beneath Reeds Peak; and
  • Campsites are located behind the dunes on the northern side of the lake.
  • Experienced bushwalkers wishing to access Reeds Peak and beyond should follow the ridgelines round the south of the lake.
